Ethereum Foundation Launches Platåberget Testnet for Glamsterdam Upgrade Simulation

Woofun AI reports that the Ethereum Foundation initiated the Platåberget testnet on August 17, establishing a dedicated environment to simulate the mechanics of the upcoming Glamsterdam upgrade. This infrastructure deployment ensures developers and operators can verify transition protocols before the mainnet fork occurs on August 20.

The testnet launches from the current mainnet state to provide a faithful simulation of an active chain under stress.

Notably, this advance preparation is urgent because existing wallets will cease to function correctly without updates. The simulation specifically targets EIP-8037, which introduces a state gas dimension to break down associated costs, ensuring client software can handle these structural changes.

Per Woofun AI, the testnet also validates proposer-builder separation changes via EIP-7732, where Everstake staking and MEV-Boost relays operate without on-chain fallbacks. This involves managing builder identities, signed bids, and a payload timeliness committee.

Furthermore, EIP-7928 implements block-level access lists that record every account and storage slot a block touches, alongside the resulting state modifications.

Gas limit adjustments are central to the upgrade, raising Ethereum's cap from 60 million toward a maximum of 200 million. Contract size caps are also being tested, with deployed contracts limited to 64 KiB and the initcode cap set at 128 KiB. Following community feedback and client updates, the network will proceed through Sepolia and Hoodi testnets, with Hegotá targeted for 2027.
