Tether’s $20M Ualá Bet Signals Aggressive Latin American Crypto Infrastructure Push

The transaction occurred within a broader $197 million funding round for Ualá, which was announced in March and spearheaded by Allianz X. Ualá identified Tether as a participant during the initial disclosure, but the specific valuation of the stablecoin giant’s contribution remained undisclosed at that time. Verification attempts with Tether in July yielded no public response prior to publication.

Structurally, this move aligns with a pattern of aggressive regional acquisitions. In April, Tether led a $14 million Series A round for the Argentine crypto platform Belo, alongside investors including Titan Fund, The Venture City, Mindset Ventures, and G2. Just weeks later in July, a separate $20 million investment was directed toward Brazilian exchange Mercado Bitcoin to bolster onchain infrastructure.
