OpenAI Computer History Replaces Screenshots With Action Tracking

OpenAI launches Computer History, replacing screenshot-based Chronicle with click and keystroke tracking. The system organizes actions into timelines, reduces token usage, and is currently available for macOS Pro users.

Woofun AI reports that OpenAI has launched Computer History, officially replacing the previous Chronicle system. The new version eliminates screenshot reliance entirely, instead tracking specific actions such as clicks, keystrokes, shortcut usage, and app switches. These records are organized into timelines and local memories, allowing ChatGPT and Codex to retrieve information for queries regarding recent file modifications or past work sessions. OpenAI states that the new system uses fewer tokens than Chronicle and can identify repetitive actions to suggest Skills or Automations. While the old version remembered only completed tasks, the new system tracks habitual workflows. Currently, Computer History is available exclusively on macOS for Pro, Business, and Enterprise users. It is disabled by default, and users can exclude specific apps and websites individually.
