Google Veterans Launch Discovery Loop to Automate AI-Driven Research Experiments

Woofun AI reports that former Alphabet Chief Scientist Jeff Dean has departed Google after nearly 27 years to co-found Discovery Loop alongside Sanjay Ghemawat, Oriol Vinyals, and Quoc Le. The founders bring extensive experience from Google’s foundational systems, Google Brain, Gemini, and AlphaFold projects.

Discovery Loop aims to automate machine learning research by enabling AI to write code, execute experiments, and analyze results autonomously. The system allows for thousands of simultaneous experiments, reducing human involvement to goal-setting and outcome evaluation. Initial applications will focus on internal model refinement, with potential expansion into chip design, biology, pharmaceuticals, and advanced materials. The company, currently recruiting and operating without a fixed office, has secured seed funding led by Radical Ventures and Khosla Ventures, with participation from Kleiner Perkins, Lightspeed, and Alphabet, which will provide initial compute resources via Google Cloud.
