Huawei Scientist Warns NVIDIA Scaling Hits Physical Limits, Predicts Avalanche
Huawei’s Liao Heng asserts NVIDIA’s core expansion faces physical ceilings, warning of an industry 'avalanche' once limits are breached. He highlights Huawei’s new Tau Scaling Law chip as a divergent path.
Woofun AI reports that Dr. Liao Heng, Chief Scientist of Huawei Semiconductor, warned that Western chipmakers led by NVIDIA are nearing physical constraints in processor scaling. He stated that increasing compute cores and HBM has a definitive ceiling, and crossing this threshold will trigger an "avalanche."
Dr. Liao revealed Huawei is preparing to launch its first smartphone chip based on the Tau Scaling Law, utilizing LogicFolding technology to enhance component transfer speeds as miniaturization advantages fade. He emphasized the need for collaborative design between chip manufacturers and AI model developers, noting that SemiAnalysis and TechInsights will analyze the chip later this year. He also praised DeepSeek founder Wenfeng Liang for achieving high-performance models with low compute power through innovative architecture.
